This time he is inspiring and educating entrepreneurs
Renowned actor, businessman, philanthropist and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger featured on the popular Mentorship Challenge with host Marc Wainer on 29 June. The program is showcased on eNCA and e.tv.
The Mentorship Challenge, founded by Redefine Properties aims to inspire and educate locals. Through the challenge, ordinary South Africans are able to connect with leaders in a range of industries from architecture to fashion. Mentee’s are able to engage with their mentor via an interactive online platform. Mentors provide valuable insight and wisdom in the industry, providing key tools for entrepreneurs. Top business leaders in the country are able to provide crucial aid to business trailblazers.
Schwarzenegger arrived in South Africa for the annual Arnold Classic Africa, which takes place in Johannesburg every May. The event is a large health and fitness expo, featuring professional bodybuilding, strength and combat sports and more.
Wainer comments on Schwarzenegger’s achievements. “Born to humble beginnings, he became a champion body-builder winning Mr. Universe five times and then reinvented himself to become an A-list movie star, moving then into politics to be the Governor of one of the richest states in the US, California, twice. The state’s economy rivals the United Kingdom’s and if it were a country, it would be ranked 5th in the biggest economies,” he said.
Secrets to success
He adds, “Arnold is a legend, he is an epitome of what one can achieve with some help. It is a matter of simply asking for it.”
Schwarzenegger has been vocal about the help that he received to get him where he is today, in the foreward for Tim Ferris’ book Tools of Titan he wrote, “I am not a self-made man. I got a lot of help.”
“Like everyone, to get to where I am, I stood on the shoulders of giants. My life was built on a foundation of parents, coaches, and teachers; of kind souls who lent couches or gym back rooms where I could sleep; of mentors who shared wisdom and advice; of idols who motivated me from the pages of magazines (and, as such, my life grew from personal interaction),” adds Schwarzenegger
Wainer built JSE listed and diversified real estate trust, Redefine Properties. He is currently the Executive Director of the company.
The Mentorship Challenge is now in its second season and expects a high volume of applications from both mentors and mentee’s.
