The property development and construction industry is in crisis. Bureaucratic stagnation, unwieldy policies, red tape and crippled procurement processes are playing havoc with the thousands who rely on this sector for employment, while investors take their money elsewhere.
This has become so critical that the Western Cape Property Development Forum (WCPDF) has made it the theme of its upcoming 6th annual conference entitled The Perfect Storm: investment and jobs or bureaucracy and stagnation. This will take place from 16-17 May 2019 at the Century City Conference Centre in Cape Town.
Says WCPDF chairperson, Deon van Zyl: “The theme has hit a significant cord with complementary industries that are also affected. We thus have a strong mix of voices from the private and public sector who we are bringing together to debate the challenges and find a way forward.
The speakers include Cas Coovadia (MD of the Banking Association of SA), Dr Crispian Olver (author of How to Steal a City), Tim Harris (CEO, Wesgro), Dr Pierre Voges (Head: Western Cape Strategic Economic Development Infrastructure Company – SEDIC) and Dr George McCarthy (CEO of the USA-based Lincoln Institute of Land Policy). The conference will be presided over by financial journalist and The Money Show presenter, Bruce Whitfield.
