Robin Booth entrepreneur and investor from Cape Town was crowned the Investor of the Year 2018 award winner as created by Real Estate Investor Magazine. The event took place at Bryanston Country Club on Tuesday 22 May. Real Estate Investor Magazine in conjunction with SA Property Investor Network co-hosted the annual gala dinner function. Headline sponsor of Investor of the Year event was FutureDev Properties, a property developer in the greater Sandton area.
The keynote speaker for the evening was international investor, author, speaker and entrepreneur Dr. Dolf de Roos who shared insights for both beginner and advanced investors.
The winners cheque of R25,000 was handed over by CEO Akbar Hassim of FutureDev Properties to Robin Booth. Other prizes include a 3 night trip to Franschoek Lermitage Chateau and Villas as sponsored by eLan Property Group, a designer watch and a full educational pack of Dolf de Roos’s books, home study courses and property education material.
The selection was made by votes from the audience as well as identified by 5 judges on the evening, which included Neale Petersen REIM founder and investor, Dolf de Roos international investor and author, Candice Schultz attorney and investor, Warren Brusse investor and developer and Akbar Hassim investor and developer.
Each participant had 7 minutes to present their case to the judges and audience to convince them why they should be investor of the year. The participants included Marc Lunau from Cape Town,
Vanessa de Pinho from Pretoria, Thabini Madela from Secunda,
Lehan le Grange from Johannesburg and Robin Booth from Cape Town.
Criteria for selecting the winner included discipline in overcoming personal or regulatory hurdles, entrepreneurial flair in sourcing deals, creativity in finance or getting the deal, strategy type, initiative and dedication, commitment to see the deal through, contribution to society, hard work, use of a team and education and lessons learnt. Does the presentation of information provided teach us things that we can learn, inspire us and does it entice the audience to want to know more about successful real estate investment?
After a close call and much deliberation the judges decided on Robin Booth as the winner.
